Dr. David Cooper

Dr. David Cooper is a graduate of Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and the Jefferson Orthopedic residency, where he worked closely with Dr. Phil Marone, the Philadelphia Phillies team orthopedic surgeon.

Dr. Cooper assisted in the care and surgery of several professional ball players; he was also the house physician at Veterans Stadium for many years. During medical school and residency, Dr. Cooper was in the United States Naval Reserve and was on active duty at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital. He was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant, USN

After completing his residency, Dr. Cooper entered private practice as a general orthopedic surgeon in Lansdale, Pa. For four years, he performed all types of orthopedic surgery including neck and low back laminectomies and fusions along with extensive open and closed fracture care.

In 1980, Dr. Cooper was recruited by Geisinger to open the orthopedic department at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital in Wilkes-Barre where he was one of the first orthopedic surgeons in the valley to introduce knee replacements and arthroscopic surgery.

In 1981, Dr. Cooper opened the Knee Center in Wilkes-Barre, to further specialize in the care and treatment of knee and lower extremity disorders. He has personally performed over 6000 arthroscopic surgeries, ligament repairs, and knee replacements.

In terms of actually performing surgeries, as opposed to having interns and residents handle the cases, Dr. Cooper is one of the most experienced knee surgeons in the world, as well as being board certified for life by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, the highest honor that any medical specialist practicing in the United States can obtain.

Dr. Cooper continues to maintain his certification by attending continuing educational courses, and by lecturing and teaching nurses and physician assistants. By reviewing the voluminous information available in periodicals and the Internet, Dr. Cooper provides his patients information about the newest and best treatments to stay healthy and productive.

Dr. Cooper is the consulting orthopedic surgeon at the Pocono International Raceway for the NASCAR races, and has been taking care of the drivers and crews for almost 20 years. He has also accompanied the Philadelphia Flyers Senior Hockey Team to Lillehammer as their team orthopedic surgeon.

As a sought after speaker by many national organizations, Dr. Cooper has spoken at the national conferences of the American Bar Association and the Risk Insurance Management Society national meetings in New Orleans and Atlanta. He has been a frequent guest lecturer at Binghamton University, Kings University, and the University of Scranton.

Dr. Cooper has appeared on television and radio on numerous occasions to educate the public on knee injuries, their treatment and prevention; he has been interviewed by Bob Costas about leg injuries, and appeared on national radio in New York City to discuss all the facets of orthopedic surgery.

Dr. Cooper pilots his own plane, and is able to make himself available for personal consultations and public appearances nationwide. If you would like Dr. Cooper to speak to your organization, please contact The Knee Center to make arrangements.
